Popular actor Hugh Jackman will receive important award in recognition to his work and film career
Popular Tony Award winner Hugh Jackman will receive the Donostia Award for lifetime achievement Sept. 27, prior to the special screening of his latest film, "Prisoners," at the 61st edition of the San Sebastian Festival in Spain. The actor has gained lots of popularity as of lately thanks to his roles in blockbuster movies such as X-men and Wolverine. Let’s take a brief look at his life and career.
The famous actor was born on October 12, 1968, in Sydney, New South Wales, Australia. Before becoming a recurring star in TV series and movies, Jackman made his living by working in restaurants and gas stations. His first television break came in 1995 with Correlli, a popular Australian prison drama. The success of the series, combined with Jackman’s solid acting skills helped him win other recurring roles in TV series. The actor managed to win a few awards along the way before making it into the world of films.
Following his successful TV performances, Hugh Jackman made the leap to the wide screen in 1999 when he made his film debut in the obscure Australian production Erskinville Kings(1999). The role was very tricky to manage for anyone without much experience with big screen acting. Incredibly, for this performance he won the 2000 Film Critics Circle Australia (FCCA) award for Best Male Actor.
As many of you already know, Jackman gained worldwide recognition when he played the Logan / Wolverine character in the first X-Men movie. Curiously enough, Jackman was selected by the film’s director, Bryan Singer, as a last-minute replacement for Dougray Scott when he backed out of the role.
Jackman cemented his position as a movie star in 2001 when he acted in 3 silver screen films. Critics applauded Jackman’s skills and versatility as an actor. For the movie Kate and Leopold, which he costarred with Meg Ryan, he received a Golden Globe nomination for best actor. In 2003 he returned to his role as Wolverine for Xmen-2. Along the way he sometimes participated in stage acting and Broadway Performances.
Jackman had his own superhero movie with X-Men Origins: Wolverine which was released May 1, 2009. Before the release of X-Men Origins, Jackman hosted the 81st Academy Awards on Feb. 22, 2009. The Wolverine (2013) saw his return as the famous superhero once again.
To this day, Hugh Jackman has already signed for multiple Film, TV and stage projects. He remains one of the most popular male actors to this day thanks to his diverse skillset and multiple talents.
